BLESSING BOXES IN MT ZION

shelly0287

Exciting News! We are thrilled to announce that our project, funded by a 2024 #AARPCommunityChallenge grant from @AARPLivableCommunities and AARP Georgia is now complete! This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from our community, partners and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped from our seniors painting the boxes to Justin Smallwood, Levi Henderson, Dan Henderson, Dakota Collins, and Libbie Brock for building and installing the boxes.

The motto for our Blessing Boxes is simple:

TAKE WHAT YOU NEED AND GIVE WHAT YOU CAN.

The City of Mount Zion was able to build 2 blessings boxes for our community. One is for people and the other is for pets. They are by the community center and library and along the path to the middle school. Among the donations are cake mixes, pans and birthday candles for parents who may not be able to afford a birthday cake for their kids. We also know that a lot of our citizens, especially seniors, have pets, and ... sometimes they’ve got to choose between buying food for themselves or for their pet and we don’t want anybody to go hungry including members of our fur family.

For more information on all of this year’s grantees and their projects, go to AARP.org/CommunityChallenge.

You can see a map featuring this year’s AARP Community Challenge projects, previous year’s grantees, as well as communities that are members of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities on AARP’s Livable Communities interactive map at aarp.org/livablemap.
